Thanksgiving weekend

Just had to drive Maize to the noonish meal, but torrential rain hit me on the way home. On Saturday I took her to a skeet shoot and didn't know very many people. My car was a great conversation starter. It is a little over a year since I began this adventure. It is truly a unique artistic experience. I am thankful for Maize.

A New Face for an Old Broad

Maize was carefully parked at the event on Broad Ave Sat. Nov. 20 in Memphis Tn. She offered Non- GMO Shopping Guides to the participants who attended the event. I was busy posing as a bike babe and didn't wear the Corn Mother regalia.

Halloween Car?

Leaving a wonderful Halloween weekend Sunday morning on Rutledge Pike in Knoxville a guy in the gas station yells from his car "Is that a Halloween Car?" (It was Halloween)
I'm always taken aback at the comments people make about my car. I said "No. It always looks like this" and then he said "Will that wash off?' I didn't figure I needed to go further into the purpose of the paint job. I had a 6hr road trip ahead of me and it was a beautiful day.

The obligations of an art car with a message

I don't ususally take Maize out after dark because she isn't as effective and I can't see very well out of her. I was getting gas around dusk and going to go home to switch cars before going to Circut Playhouse. A gentleman at the gas station was interested in my message and we spoke for about 30 minutes so I had to go straight to the play. On the way home she lost power turning left on Central from Cooper. Eased into a parking lot. Called AAA and waited for an hour at the gas station across the street. When the wrecker driver got her loaded on the truck he got in the cab and said what does that message mean on the back of your car? We spent the ride home discussing Monsanto vs real food. he left with a Non-GMO shopping guide and a handful of organic corn seeds....just like the guy at the gas station. Inch by inch....

Houston Art Car Parade

After performing for the judges, I parked my car in the line of art cars. For 2 hours I stayed with my car; gave away organic corn seeds and non-GMO shopping guides; and posing for pictures. During the parade I picked up a veteran parade participant and skater who rode shotgun telling me stories about past parades. Had a BLAST!

Earth Day

This was the line of traffic coming into the park...
and I planted myself on the front row of their viewing.

I spent 4 hours at the event. I started at 10am walking around the event dressed as Corn Mother and when questioned about my attire would offer a handy brochure listing NON-GMO food products. Later I stayed with the car, flew my rainbow kite and spoke with anyone who showed an interest.

A Whole Foods experience

Last night when I was leaving the store I noticed a couple looking at my car. They'd parked right next to me. Spent 30 minutes having a great conversation with the couple from Mississippi. A collegue from Dyersburg State showed up because she recognized my car. Lots of laughter. A great encounter.

maize gets a new spring makeover

Over spring break I modified the kind of corn painted on my car. It is now Indian Corn.... with the diversity to withstain drought, bugs, heat and anything else that might keep it from growing.

I also changed the message to a more positive statement.

Last week

I'm creating an amazing BUZZ with "Maise" the car that looks like corn on the cob. Last week a kid from Whitestation High School took photos for his video project at school. I was parked in the Fresh Market parking lot. I'm afraid I was a little too intense with my description of Monsanto. The kid was doing a video on corn and didn't know who Monsanto was!!!

While waiting to pick up my great neice at St. Louis School on Thursday a bikerstopped and asked if he could take a picture. He didn't need any kernals of truth. He was from Wisconsin and knew all about Monsanto.
