Maize is for Sale!

For $2,000 you can own an art car with a LEGACY. It's a '93 Subaru Legacy wagon. I use it as a daily driving car. It has 300,487 miles. It comes with regalia that matches the car, non-GMO shopping guides, organic corn seeds,  roof racks and a platform that looks like a husk, and this blog. Driving an art car is a wonderful experience, especially one that has an important message. Review the blog to learn more about this great opportunity. Contact me at JABDART@GMAIL.COM for more info.

Occupy Monsanto

October 16 we took over the four corners of Poplar and Highland. About 15 people showed up initially, but many more joined us just because they saw us and were motivated. It was unlike any experience I've ever had. I made and handed out over 50 Kernels of Truth non-GMO shopping guides and most of my organic corn seeds. I was interviewed by Fox News and they aired a great segment at least twice. The dude with the flag has the only other art car in town that I know about and his more about too much government.

300,000 miles

Maize will hit 300,000 miles soon (about 40 more miles). I need ideas! How do I celebrate/honor this milestone?

Maize made the Poster

Saturday April 29

Just had to document a day in the life of an art car owner. Left home at 8am heading to the downtowm farmer's market to get my kale for the week in Maize. Saw a car going the other direction stopped under the viaduct on Peabody. Thought it was weird. 5 blocks later a guy jumps out of his car with his phone wanting to take a picture of the front of Maize. Said his girlfriend had been trying to catch up with me for 5 lights! Told 'em they had to take a picture of the back and he said they already had one...gave him a Kernal of Truth book.
9am getting gas on Getwell a guy says "Did you paint it?" and after I said yes he replies smiling "It reminds me of the 60's? Know what I mean? Hippies".
10:30 at Home Depot the 2 guys loading the car next to me are smiling. One asks " Is that a Subaru?" to which I reply "yep and just about to hit 300,000 miles!"
1:30 on Perkins at Poplar a family in the car next to me is honking. Passenger yells the typical "Did you paint that yourself?" and my nod gets a thumbs up from the whole car.
Next a guy in a pick up hollars " How as the parade?"......... "Excellent" I replied grinning from ear to ear.
Finally, at the V & E Greenline public art dedication saw Bianca and she said "I knew you  were here somewhere because I saw Maize."
It is such a gas to have an art car on a beautiful sunny day in Memphis.

Memphis Heavyweight

Maize and the Corn Mother were a hit Saturday, April 23 on the U of M campus with Nick Cave's Memphis Heavyweight Parade.
I updated the Kernels of Truth booklet to look like a kernel  of corn. Angi, the Corn Goddess handed them out in her suit made of old floppy discs.

Subaru Magazine

The text below plus a photo of my lady in all her glory made it into the Winter issue of Drive Magazine. The editors note gave me a chuckle. I really need to get those windows re-done
so I can see out of them. I'm guessing they might be illegal. :(

An A-Maize-ing Subaru

I transformed my second white Subaru station wagon into “Maize” when I purchased a white ’96 Legacy Outback. I have a costume that matches my car. I drive her daily and am always prepared to engage in conversations about the crisis of genetically modified foods. I carry organic corn seeds and a non-genetically modified organics (GMO) shopping guide to give to those who are interested.
