People for Bikes Competition and the National Bike Challenge

Thursday, April 28 I participated in the first Bikes on Broad event with the lil' Kernel. The City of Memphis is competing with other cities in the People for Bikes Challenge. Each month there will be a different theme. The April theme was trailer and cargo bikes. There is a point system and the number of bikes on Broad is counted by an electronic counter on the last Thursday of every month. Extra points are earned for bikes related to the theme. I biked to the event and back for a total of about 20 miles....toting the lil' Kernel!!

May 1 I joined the National Bike Challenge and started recording all my miles. Today after a 28 mile ride to midtown, I strapped on the lil' Kernel to go to Whole Foods for my water refill. At Park and Mendenhall a guy  stopped for gas and came over to chat about my trailer while I was waiting for the light to change. I forgot how whenever I was in Maize I had to be prepared to stop and have a conversation about the project. So I wheeled into the gas station and he accepted a Kernel of Truth for his daughter and corn seeds for his Mother. It's the women who will change the world!!
